Our Commitment
SparkSchool AI is committed to protecting children's privacy and safety. We comply with FERPA, COPPA, and other applicable child data protection regulations. We implement rigorous safeguards for any data related to students under 18.
FERPA Compliance
We comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA):
- We act as a "school official" with "legitimate educational interest"
- Student education records are used only for authorized educational purposes
- We do not disclose student information without proper consent
- We provide access to records upon school or parent request
- Data is returned or destroyed upon contract termination
COPPA Compliance
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for children under 13:
- School-Based Consent: Schools obtain verifiable parental consent on our behalf
- Data Minimization: We collect only what's necessary for educational services
- No Behavioral Advertising: Children's data is never used for advertising
- No Data Selling: We never sell personal information of children
- Parental Access: Parents can review, request deletion, or refuse further collection
Minimal Student Data Collection
SparkSchool is primarily a teacher-facing platform. We minimize direct student data collection:
- No direct student accounts: Students do not create accounts on SparkSchool
- Teacher-controlled data: Any student performance data is entered by teachers
- Aggregated analytics: Class-level insights, not individual student profiles
- No behavioral tracking: We do not track student online behavior
- No PII to AI: No personally identifiable student information is shared with AI providers
Data Protection Measures
- All data encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256)
- Access controls limit who can view student-related data
- Regular security audits and penetration testing
- Staff training on child data protection (annual)
- Secure data centers with physical access controls
- No student data is shared with third-party advertisers - ever
- Data breach notification within 72 hours
School & Parental Rights
We support schools and parents in maintaining control over educational data:
- Consent: Schools are responsible for obtaining necessary parental consent
- Access: Parents may request access to data related to their child
- Deletion: Parents may request deletion of their child's data at any time
- Transparency: We provide clear information about data practices
- Data portability: Schools can export data at any time
- DPA Available: We sign Data Privacy Agreements with schools upon request
AI Content Safety
All AI-generated content passes through safety filters:
- Content moderation to prevent inappropriate material
- Age-appropriate content guidelines built into AI prompts
- Teacher review required before content reaches students
- Reporting mechanisms for any concerning content
- Regular audits of AI-generated content quality
